To the LEFT is the National Debt.
If you don't think you are in debt up

The news reports and formal announcement by President Obama that Osama bin Laden had been
killed in a US operation sparked cheers, celebrations, and shouts of, “USA! USA!”
In one sense we are right to celebrate the achievement. The mastermind who orchestrated some of the
most brutal mass murders in history has met his fate. And the last thing he saw was an American with
the business end of a gun pointed squarely at him. And in the words of Sean Hannity's theme song,
this was the day of reckoning.
But in another sense, we should not really be celebrating the death of anyone.
Death is final. It is that one event that everyone on the planet, without exception, will face. My
Christian faith tells me that our eternal destiny is based upon our answer to one question: "What will I
do with Jesus which is called the Christ?"
It is the question asked by Pontious Pilate during the trial of Jesus. And it will be the question Jesus
Himself will ask of each of us.
For Jesus alone was able to pay our sin debt to a perfect, thrice holy God. Mohammed can't. Neither
can Budda, Confuscious, or anybody else who claims that he came from God.
And if you check, you'll find that Mohammed's tomb still houses his remains. Confuscious is still
buried in his, and Buddah's bones are still in the grave where his followers put them.
But Jesus' tomb is empty. It's empty because He alone paid our sin debt. We can't depend on
anyone, even ourselves, to do it becasuse only Jesus can pull that off.
All you have to do is to accept what Jesus did on the cross for your sins and invite Him to come into
your heart and apply His payment to your account with God, and proclaim Jesus as Lord and Master
of your life. That's it. And Jesus is the only way to heaven.
And you've got to make that decision while you're alive. There are no do-overs.
Bin Laden believed that once you died a good Muslim and killed infidels, there would be 72 virgins
waiting for you when you died.
But Jesus Christ proclaimed that in the next world there would be no marriage nor giving in marriage.
And Jesus ought to know. He's been there.
Face it. They both can't be right. I cast my lot with Jesus. I believe He's right. I KNOW He's right.
Should we be celebrating someone’s death? Even someone as intrinsically evil as bin Laden?
Or should we be taking a more sober look?
My wife often asks if we do something to someone else, how would we like it if the tables were
turned. If memory serves me right, back on 9/11 more than a few radical Muslims were celebrating
the deaths of nearly three thousand of our countrymen.
We didn’t like it. That was a slap in the face. E-mails floated around shortly after 9/11about a
Budwiser delivery man who had stopped at a convenience store owned by a couple of Muslims who
were wooping it up after 9/11. He called his boss to report it, and his boss asked him to take all the
Budweiser products out of the store post haste. He did. Later he ran into his neighbor, who was a
Pepsi driver and he took out all the Pepsi products from the same store. It went out of business in a
few weeks.
Indeed, those Muslim celebrations raised some fierce emotions. Now the tables are turned.
Is there a reason to mourn for Osama bin Laden? I think there is.
First and foremost, as long as bin Laden was alive, he had the opportunity to repent of his evil deeds
and give his life to Jesus Christ. Given the zeal with which he prosecuted his evil acts, this world
might have been quite a different place had he taken that course. From what we know, however, the
prospects of him giving his life to Christ were at best, remote.
Apparently he didn't. And thus, this world has become a more dangerous place to live. And as for bin
Laden,death sealed his fate.
Whenever someone dies, famous or not, those who knew him or her mourn for their loss and celebrate
the life lived.
The tragedy of the life of Osama bin Laden is there is nothing to celebrate. He was a mass murderer
and his hardened heart would not repent. And there was such an easy way out.
Thus, I mourn, not only for Osama bin Laden, but also for the world that might have been had he and
his ilk given their lives to Jesus Christ.
